I Cry When My Team Loses. Am I a Wimp?

You may be but it has nothing to do with crying. I had a teenage client recently who informed me that his step-dad got onto him one day because he was crying due to an argument they had been in. Being the macho, father figure of the year he is, he said, “men don’t cry”. Well, this same man-child also happens to demand sex from his wife, shows no emotional control or stability, spends most of his time at work, and has managed to create an environment of fear for his wife and kids to flourish in. Oh and he is in his mid-fifties. So whether or not you are a wimp is one thing but strong emotional reaction to an event causes a physiological response and it just may be tears. So go ahead and route for your team, get upset when they lose, go nuts when they win, but be man enough to keep your thoughts in check so that your family doesn’t suffer the resulting emotional response. This suggestion would be wisely followed in any situation where your thoughts may lead to increased emotion.
